Engineering Zone

Renishaw is the largest private employer in Gloucestershire, with 2,300 staff in the county. In the Engineering Zone the company will again run various science-based activities for children and their families – always a popular stop during the Gloucestershire Motor Show.

Make a RGB LED torch, build and launch rockets (always popular) and pedal as fast as you can on a bike to see how much energy you can produce.

The company will also highlight some of its world leading technologies including metal 3D printing – Renishaw is the UK’s only manufacturer of additive manufacturing machines that ‘print’ objects from metal powder and staff from the company will show a selection of items that the company has made, including the titanium nose cone and steering wheel for the 1,000 mph BLOODHOUND supersonic car. There will also be a selection of the company’s healthcare products, including some of the company’s technology that is being applied to brain surgery.

Young apprentices and graduates from the company will also show one of their battery driven cars which they have built to compete in the Greenpower electric car championship. Renishaw has supported Greenpower for over a decade as it gives the opportunity for schools and companies across the UK to participate in a competition that encourages teamwork, a practical understanding of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and engineering innovation.

Renishaw staff will also be on hand throughout the weekend to discuss the entry routes into an engineering career, including work experience, apprenticeships, placements and graduate schemes.
